Ashok Kumar Gupta - Ashok Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the Chairman of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).  His appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Virtual Newsreaders
Virtual Newsreaders - Xinhua, China's state-run press agency, recently unveiled virtual newsreaders that combine the images and voices of human anchors with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Xinhua unveiled two AI newsreaders, one that speaks in English and one in Chinese. Xinhua developed the robot anchor with Chinese search engine Sogou.com.

Hima Das - United Nations Children's Fund-India (UNICEF) appointed Asian Games gold-medalist sprinter Hima Das as India’s first ever Youth Ambassador. Recently, Hima clinched a Gold medal in Women's 4x400 metre relay event at the 2018 Asian Games at Jakarta, Indonesian

Jawahar Lal Sarin - Jawahar Lal Sarin, president of the governing body of Alliance Francaise, was conferred with France's highest civilian honor 'Knight of the Legion of Honour' by French Ambassador.


Eritrea - United Nations Security Council in a unanimous vote agreed to lift the sanctions imposed against Eritrea, after nine years. Security Council had imposed an arms embargo, asset freeze and a travel ban on Eritrea, amidst claims that the northeast African nation, supported al-Shabab militants in Somalia. 


Penalty on Punjab Government - National Green Tribunal ordered the Punjab government to submit a fine of Rs. 50 crore as environmental compensation for polluting rivers Sutlej and Beas due to industrial discharge. The Bench has asked the Punjab government to recover the fine from industries in two weeks.

Ashok Chawla - Yes Bank chairman Ashok Chawla has resigned with immediate effect, the private sector lender said. The former Finance Secretary, who was the bank’s non-executive chairman for over two years, resigned as he was unable to devote more time.


Remittances Received by India - India continues to be the top nation with $69 billion of remittances that it received last year, according to RBI. Four southern states Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh received almost half 46% of its total remittances. Kerala topped the list with 19%.


Bailout Package for Pakistan - Even as cash-strapped Pakistan looks forward to about $6 billion financial bailout for averting its balance of payments crisis, IMF is reportedly dissatisfied with its fiscal policies, and has directed the country to raise taxes in order to survive. Earlier last month, Saudi Arabia said it would provide Pakistan with a $6 billion rescue package.

President will Visit Vietnam - President Ram Nath Kovind will pay a three-day visit to Vietnam with a focus on deepening bilateral cooperation in key areas of defence and security, trade and in offshore oil exploration.


Jharkhand Statehood Day - Jharkhand celebrated its 17th Statehood Day on 15 November, on the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda. The state was carved out of southern Bihar in 2000.


National Press Day - Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will inaugurate National Press Day celebrations in New Delhi on November 16. Eminent journalist and Chairman of the Hindu Publishing Group, N Ram was selected under prestigious award category of Raja Ram Mohan Roy award. 


e-learning portal ‘NIPUN’- Delhi Police launched e-learning portal ‘NIPUN’ to impart training and provide up to date information to police officers. The initiative is aimed at imparting in-service online training and information to police personnel through specialised courses available online.


World Customs Organisation - Four-day regional meeting of World Customs Organisation (WCO) was held in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It was attended by representatives of 33 member countries of Asia. 


Yoga and Mindfulness - Mansi Gulati's book ‘Yoga and Mindfulness’ was launched by the Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Satyarup Siddhanta
Satyarup Siddhanta - Indian mountaineer Satyarup Siddhanta became the first Indian to climb Mt Giluwe, the second highest mountain in Papua New Guinea. Satyarup reached the summit of the mountain which is at an elevation of 4,367 metres.


World Economic Forum - Annual meeting of World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Future Councils was held in Dubai, UAE.
