Sushil Chandra - President Ram Nath Kovind appointed ex-IRS officer and CBDT chairman Sushil Chandra as the election commissioner. With his appointment, the Election Commission has been restored to its status as a three-member body, the other two members being Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and election commissioner Ashok Lavasa.

16th Lok Sabha Concluded - The last session of 16th Lok Sabha came to an end on 13th of February 2019. Giving the details for the tenure of 16th Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narendra Singh Tomar informed that there were a total number of 331 sittings for Lok Sabha. 205 bills were passed and the productivity was 85%. For Rajya Sabha, 154 bills were passed and the productivity was 68%.

The biggest US bank said it developed a prototype digital coin that it plans to use to speed up payments between corporate customers. The token, dubbed JPM Coin, is based on blockchain technology, a decentralized public ledger of transactions that offers more speed because it doesn’t rely on a central record keeper.

Exercise Topchi - Indian Army showcased its artillery firepower by using ultralight Howitzers and indigenous Swathi weapon-locating radar at the annual “Exercise Topchi”. The exercise was held at Deolali Camp near Nashik. There were a showcase of display of rockets, missiles, surveillance, and target acquisition radars, remotely piloted aircraft and hi-tech equipment in addition to gunfire.

Dam Rehabilitation And Improvement Project - The Centre will bring 13% of large dams in the country under the World Bank aided Dam Rehabilitation And Improvement Project (DRIP), up from the current 4 %. World Bank has accepted India's proposal for funding Rs 11,000 crore to rehabilitate around 700 dams.

Mukhyamantri Vridhajan Pension Yojna - Bihar Government has announced a universal old age pension scheme called Mukhyamantri Vridhajan Pension Yojna (MVPY) for all people above 60 years of age. The scheme will come into force from April 1, 2019. Except those senior citizens who have retired from government service, all will be eligible for 400 rupees monthly pension irrespective of caste, religion or community.

Egyptian assembly has already given its preliminary approval to the changes last week.
