Jet Airways Suspends All Flights
Jet Airways Suspends All Flights - Jet Airways announced temporary suspension of all its international and domestic flights. In a filing before the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and a statement to the media, Jet Airways said it was informed by the State Bank of India (SBI), on behalf of the consortium of Indian lenders, that they were unable to consider its request for critical interim funding of Rs 400 crore.

TikTok Removed From Google Play Store - Google and Apple on April 16, 2019 blocked the access to highly popular Chinese video app 'TikTok' on their app stores following the refusal of the Madras High Court to lift the ban imposed on the app on April 3, 2019. The app is now not available for download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The Madras High Court on April 16, 2019 did not accept the request of the Bytedance Technology Pvt Ltd, the marketer of TikTok app in India, to suspend the ban.

US President Used Veto - US President Donald Trump vetoed a bill passed by the Congress to end US military assistance in Saudi Arabia-led war in Yemen. The Congress had voted for the first time to invoke the War Powers Resolution to try and stop US involvement in a foreign conflict. The President issued his first veto in March on a legislation related to immigration.

Informal Ministerial Meeting of WTO - Amid a global trade war, India will hold an informal ministerial of the World Trade Organization (WTO) for a second time in just over a year, starting May 13. The two-day mini-ministerial is aimed at reaffirming commitment to preserving a rule-based, multilateral trading system and will likely discuss key issues such as reforms at WTO, special and differential treatment to developing countries, e-commerce and certain other topics relating to the Doha agenda.

Pulitzer Prizes Awarded - The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal were awarded Pulitzer Prizes for their separate investigations of President Donald Trump and his family. The Associated Press won a Pulitzer for international reporting for its coverage of the war in Yemen. Reuters was honoured for international reporting for its coverage of atrocities committed against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. 
What is Pulitzer Prize - The Pulitzer Prize is an award for achievements in newspaper, magazine and online journalism, literature, and musical composition in the United States. It was established in 1917 by provisions in the will of American (Hungarian-born) Joseph Pulitzer who had made his fortune as a newspaper publisher and is administered by Columbia University in New York City.

Guillermo Cano Press Freedom Prize - Reuters journalists, Kyaw Soe Oo, and Wa Lone have been selected for UNESCO/Guillermo Cano Press Freedom Prize 2019. Currently, they are serving 7-year prison sentences in Myanmar. They collected classified military records that revealed extrajudicial assassinations of Rohingya Muslims by the army in Rakhine State.

The 5G technology, along with blockchain, will be progressively adopted by banks. Department Of Telecommunications had already launched test beds for 5G use in the academia in Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore to develop 5G for Indian use.

CubeSat is a mini research satellite to detect cosmic rays, flown into space on future missions. CubeSats are miniature satellites intended as a standard, inexpensive design that can easily fit alongside larger satellites aboard launch vehicles.

RBI Issued New Note of Rs 50 - Reserve Bank of India issued Rs 50 denomination banknotes signed by the Governor Shaktikanta Das. The design of these notes is similar in all respects to Rs 50 banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi new series.The note bears the motif of ‘Hampi with Chariot’ on the reverse that depicts India’s cultural heritage.
