Three Initiative For Women Safety - Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh along with Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi jointly launched three significant initiatives to promote the safety of women in their living spaces, working spaces and the public spaces in New Delhi. The initiatives include Emergency Response Support System, Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO) and Safe City Implementation Monitoring Portal.

Emergency Response Support System - The Ministry launched Emergency Response Support System in 16 states and union territories. The Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) is a pan-India single number (112) based response system for persons in distress.
Dial 112 - A person in distress can dial a pan-India number: 112.
Press power button - A citizen can press the power button on a smartphone thrice quickly to activate a panic call to ERC.
Long press 5, 9 keys - In case of a feature phone, a citizen can long press on number 5 or 9 on the phone keypad to activate the panic call.
ERSS Website or Mobile App - The other ways to access the emergency service is by logging onto the ERSS website for the state and lodge the emergency or send SOS alert to State ERC or use 112 India Mobile App, which is available free on Google Play store and Apple store.
Emergency Response Centre - Under this system, all the states have to set up a dedicated Emergency Response Centre (ERC). For Women and children, 112 India App provides a special SHOUT feature which alerts registered volunteers in the vicinity of the victim for immediate assistance. The service has already been launched in Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences - The Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO) is an online module available to law enforcement agencies at all levels- national, state, district and police station that allows states to undertake real-time monitoring and management for completion of investigation in rape cases in two months. The system leverages the existing CCTNS database. It would greatly strengthen the states’ ability for analytics and prognosis for timely investigation and prosecution in rape cases.

Safe City projects - The Government has identified eight cities for implementation of Safe City projects in the first phase at a cost of Rs 2,919 crore, in order to instil a sense of security in women in metro cities. The cities include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai. They have been prepared jointly by Municipal bodies and City Police and reflect integrated action for the safety of women.

Resolution Against Masood Azhar - In the aftermath of the dastardly Pulwama terror attack, France has decided to move a resolution at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to designate Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar as a global terrorist. Earlier, France had made same attempt along with the US and the UK in 2017 but was blocked by China.

National Electronics Policy - The Union Cabinet approved the National Electronics Policy, which targets domestic production of electronics goods to touch $400 billion by 2025 against the current around $80 billion. The striking feature of the policy is the proposed interest subvention scheme, wherein it is suggested that an interest subsidy of 4% will be provided on loans of up to Rs 1,000 crore on plant and machinery. In case of a larger loan, subsidy will be limited to Rs 1,000 crore.

Seaplane in Seven Islands - Four islands in the Andamans and three in Lakshadweep have been identified for seaplane operations, while private sector participation has been invited for tourism-based projects. The 5th meeting of the Island Development Agency, chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, also reviewed the progress made towards the programme ‘Holistic development of islands’. Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, Hutbay and Long in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Kavaratti, Agatti and Minicoy in Lakshadweep have been identified for seaplane operations.

Anil Ambani - Reliance Communications (RCom) chairman Anil Ambani was found guilty of contempt by the Supreme Court over non-payment of Rs 550 crore dues owed to Swedish telecom giant Ericsson. Supreme Court bench asked Ambani to pay Rs 453 crore to Ericsson within four weeks and warned he would face three months jail if its orders were violated.

Exemption For Start-ups - Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu has cleared a proposal aiming at simplifying the process of exemptions for Start-ups under Income Tax Act. Now an entity will be considered as a Start-ups upto a period of ten years from the date of incorporation and registration in place of the earlier duration of 7 years. Similarly, an entity will continue to be recognised as a Start-ups, if its turnover for any of the financial years since incorporation and registration has not exceeded Rs 100 crore in place of Rs 25 crore earlier.

National Emergency in US - Sixteen US States have sued President Donald Trump over his plan to declare a national emergency to get funding for his controversial wall along the border with Mexico. The lawsuit came after Trump on February 15 declared that he would spend billions of dollars more on border barriers that Congress had granted him. The National Emergencies Act allows the President to declare a national emergency and unlock a stash of funds by invoking certain statutory authority. The coalition of 16 states in their lawsuit alleged that the Trump administration's emergency declaration and diversion of funds are unconstitutional and otherwise unlawful.

Modi Flagged Off Locomotive Engine - Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first ever diesel to electric converted locomotive twin engine of ten thousand Horse Power at DLW Varanasi. He also inspected an exhibition on locomotives at DLW campus. Such locomotives will be more economical and will increase the speed of goods trains.

Wallace Smith Broecker - Climate scientist Wallace Smith Broecker, who popularised the term "global warming" has passed away in New York. Broecker brought "global warming" into common use with a 1975 paper that correctly predicted rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere would lead to pronounced warming. He was known in science circles as the "Grandfather of Climate Science".

Panchayati Raj Bill Amended - The Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan passed the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2019 and the Rajasthan Municipality (Amendment) Bill, 2019 to end the minimum education criterion for panchayat and civic polls candidates. The previous BJP government had introduced the minimum qualification of class 10 for Zila Parishad/Panchayat member election, and class 5 or 8 class for the post of sarpanch.

Fateh Submarine - Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani unveiled the first Iranian made semi-heavy submarine named 'Fateh' ('Conqueror' in Persian), capable of being fitted with missiles. It has subsurface-to-surface missiles with a range of about 2,000 km (1,250 miles) and is capable of reaching Israel and U.S. military bases in the region.

Laureus Sports for Good Award - Jharkhand based NGO Yuwa won the Laureus Sports for Good Award. Yuwa works for girl empowerment and became the third Indian entry to receive this honour. Yuwa was founded in 2009 by Americans Franz Gastler and Rose Thomson. It runs a football program in rural Jharkhand with 450 girls.

Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Phase-2 - Union Cabinet has approved the implementation of Phase-2 of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin beyond March, 2019. Under this, government has set a target to construct one crore 95 lakh houses by 2022. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, in Phase-2, the scheme will continue as per the existing norms of PMAY-G Phase-1, with a target of 60 lakh houses till 2019-20 involving financial implication of 76,500 crore rupees.
