US Will Sale Seahawk Helicopter To India - The United States has approved the sale of 24 multi-role MH-60 ‘Romeo’ Seahawk helicopters to India at an estimated cost of 2.4 billion US dollars. This proposed sale will support the US foreign policy by helping strengthen the US-Indian strategic relationship. The MH-60 Romeo Seahawk helicopter is considered to be the world's most advanced maritime helicopter. Built by Lockheed Martin, the helicopters are designed to hunt down submarines, as well as knock out ships and conduct search-and-rescue operations at sea.

Euro-VI Grade Fuel For NCR - The supply of ultra-clean Euro-VI grade fuel (also known as Bharat Stage VI grade fuel) began in cities adjoining the National Capital Region (NCR) on April 1, 2019. Several cities in the 12 neighboring districts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh including Agra switched over to the cleaner fuel. The Euro-VI grade fuel will be rolled out across India from April 2020. The Supreme Court on October 24, 2018 ruled that no Bharat Stage-IV vehicle shall be sold across the country with effect from April 1, 2020. Delhi in April 2018 became the first city in the country to roll-out ultra-clean Bharat Stage VI (BS-VI) grade fuel, both petrol and diesel.

Bharat Stage VI - The Bharat stage emission standards were instituted by the Government to regulate the output of air pollutants from motor vehicles. The BS-IV norms were in force across the country since April 2017. The Union Government decided to switch over to BS-VI grade fuel directly from BS-IV skipping BS-V, after Environment Pollution Control Authority in its April 2017 report told the apex court that only BS-VI emission standards complaint vehicles should be allowed to be sold from April 1, 2020.

New Imperial Era In Japan - Japan on April 1, 2019 declared ‘Reiwa’ as the name of its new imperial era that will begin on May 1, 2019 once the new Crown Prince Naruhito ascends the Chrysanthemum Throne. Crown Prince Naruhito will succeed his father Emperor Akihito, who will abdicate the empire on April 30, 2019, putting an end to three decades long ‘Heisei’ era. The new era will be the 248th in the history of Japan. Japan's emperor has no political power, but remains a highly symbolic figure.

India-Africa Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development - India signed an agreement with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Consultancy Service (NABCONS) for setting up the India-Africa Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development (IAIARD) in Malawi, a landlocked country in southeastern Africa. The agreement is a part of India's efforts to enhance capacity in the areas of agro-financing and entrepreneurship development for African countries. IAIARD will be a Pan-African Institute wherein trainees from Malawi and other African countries will be trained to develop their human resources and build their capacity.

Bolivia Will Join International Solar Alliance - During the state visit of the President Ram Nath Kovind to Bolivia, Bolivia signed the framework agreement to join the International Solar Alliance. The ISA is a major initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in contributing to the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement through the rapid and massive deployment of solar energy. The International Solar Alliance was launched jointly by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande on the first day of the COP-21 summit at Paris in 2015.

The swap will be in the nature of a simple buy-sell foreign exchange swap from the Reserve Bank side.

Disturbed Area Extended in Arunachal Pradesh - The Union Ministry of Home Affairs on April 1, 2019 extended the "disturbed area" tag under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) for three districts of Arunachal Pradesh for another six months. These 3 districts are Tirap, Changlang and Longding. The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 is one of the most draconian legislations that gives unrestricted and unaccounted power to all security forces to carry out their operations, once an area is declared ‘disturbed’.

India and Chile Signed Three MoU - India and Chile released a Joint Statement on April 1, 2019 after extensive talks between Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and the President of Chile, Sebastian Pinera Echenique. India and Chile also signed three MoUs in the fields of mining, culture and empowerment of persons with disabilities. Chile announces it will allow visa-free entry to Indians holding valid US Visa. This is the third leg of the President’s three-nation tour which included Croatia and Bolivia. During the visit, President Kovind participated in India-Chile Business Forum.

ADB downgraded GDP Forecasts - The Asian Development Bank downgraded economic growth forecasts for India and Southeast Asia for 2019 as global risks from trade tensions to Brexit mount. According to the ADB’s latest Asian Development Outlook report, gross domestic product in India will probably increase by 7.2 % in 2019, down from a December forecast of 7.6%.
