Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar - The government has instituted an annual award titled Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar. It will be announced every year on 23rd January, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The Award carries a certificate and a cash prize of 51 lakh rupees. This year, 8th Battalion of National Disaster Response Force located at Ghaziabad has been selected for the Award for its commendable work in disaster management.

Saraswati Samman - Noted Gujarati poet Sitanshu Yashashchandra has been awarded Saraswati Samman - 2017, for his poetry collection in Gujarati named “Vakhar”. This is the 27th edition of the prestigious award instituted by K.K.Birla foundation given every year to an outstanding work of an Indian citizen published during the last 10 years in any of the languages mentioned in Schedule 8 of the constitution.

Pravasi Teerth Darshan Yojana - Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pravasi Teerth Darshan Yojana under which a group of Indian diaspora will be taken on a government-sponsored tour of religious places in India twice a year. The first batch will include 40 Indian-origin people from Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. All people of Indian-origin, aged between 45 and 65 can apply. The first preference will be given to people from 'Girmitiya countries' such as Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica.

India Will Surpass China In Fuel Consumption - India will surpass China to become the second largest oil demand growth centre globally in 2019 on back of buoyant auto fuel and LPG consumption, as per a report by research and consultancy group Wood Mackenzie. According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), India is currently ranked behind the United States and China as the world's third-largest oil consumer.

Nirbhaya scheme - The Maharashtra cabinet approved the implementation of the Centre's Nirbhaya scheme, which seeks to curb crimes against women, for Mumbai. The Nirbhaya Fund was initiated in 2013 by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to implement initiatives aimed at enhancing safety and security of women across India. It is a non-lapsable fund and the corpus stands at Rs 3,600 crore up to 2018-19.

N.K. Singh Committee - While the Centre is moving in the right direction in terms of meeting the N.K. Singh Committee recommendations on public debt, the States are moving in the opposite direction. Centre’s total debt as a percentage of GDP reduced to 46.5% in 2017-18 from 47.5% as of March 31, 2014. The total debt of the States, however, has been rising over this period, to 24% in 2017-18, and is estimated to be 24.3% in 2018-19.

India Fastest Growing Economy - India will continue to remain the world’s fastest-growing large economy in 2019 as well as in 2020. According to the UN’s World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2019, India’s GDP growth is expected to accelerate to 7.6 per cent in 2019-20 from an estimated 7.4 per cent in the current fiscal ending March 2019. In the case of China, the growth is estimated to decelerate to 6.3 per cent in 2019 from 6.6 per cent in 2018.

Digital Dispensaries - To provide primary healthcare in remote areas of Odisha that lack doctors, the state government signed an agreement with Glocal Healthcare Systems to set up 102 “digital dispensaries” in 23 districts of the state. The dispensaries aim to provide primary healthcare services, such as doctor consultations and basic investigations for infectious diseases, using a telemedicine network.
