70th Republic Day - India celebrates 70th Republic Day honouring the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935).
# Life of Gandhi - The theme of the 70th Republic Day parade is 'life of Gandhi' which is a tribute to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary. Highlights of Republic Day -
# Highest Number Of Women Officers - The 70th Republic Day parade will have the highest number of women officers participating in the celebrations with Lt. Bhavana Kasturi leading a contingent of 144 male personnel. This is the first time in the history of Indian Army that a woman will lead the Army services corps.
# All Women Contingent - An all-women contingent of Assam Rifles, India's oldest paramilitary force, will be participating for the first time.
# New Weapons - The weapons which will be showcased for the first time in a Republic day parade are M777 and K-9 Vajra ultra light howitzers along with the Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) missile of the DRDO.
# Bio Fuel Aircraft - For the first time in the Republic Day parade, An-32 aircraft will be flying using a mix of traditional and biofuel.
# INA Soldiers Participated - Four former Indian National Army (INA) soldiers will participate for the first time in the parade. INA was an armed force formed by Indian nationalist Rash Behari Bose in 1942 in Southeast Asia during World War II
# Sankhnaad - Sankhnaad', a martial tune created for the Indian armed forces, will be played for the first time on the 70th Republic Day parade. Since Independence, the Indian defence forces have been playing 'martial tune' created by the Britishers. `Sankhnaad' is based on Indian classical music.

Bharat Parv - Fourth edition of Bharat Parv, showcasing the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat will begin at Red Fort in Delhi on 26 January. It will continue till 31st January. The five day event is a part of Republic Day Celebrations and the objective of this festival is to generate a patriotic fervour and promote rich cultural diversity of the country.

Juan Guaido - Germany has said, it will recognize Venezuelan Opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country's interim President unless an election is announced within eight days. The statement comes after France and Spain made the same announcements earlier in the day. President Nicolas Maduro was sworn-in for a second term earlier this month, after polls marred by an opposition boycott and allegations of vote-rigging.

Opportunity Rover - NASA's Opportunity rover has completed 15 years of its touchdown on the surface of Mars. The six-wheeler rover had landed in a region of Mars called Meridiani Planum on January 24, 2004. The solar-powered rover went silent since a global dust storm in June last year.

India Signed Agreement With South Africa - Following delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the two sides inked an agreement to further deepen their strategic partnership. India and South Africa are keen on expansion of cooperation in sectors including agro-processing, defence, mining and the financial sector. India will also be setting up Gandhi-Mandela Skills Institute in Pretoria.

India and Australia Revamped Extradition Treaty - India is all set to sign a revamped extradition treaty with Australia that would enable both countries to exchange information on spies, terrorism and human traffickers. India and Australia signed an extradition treaty in 2008, but it came into force only in 2011. Under this treaty, both countries decided to recognise extraditable offences which are punishable by an imprisonment of at least one year or severe penalty.
