Abhinandan Varthaman Will Be Released - Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, now in Pakistan’s custody, would be released. “As a peace gesture, we are releasing the captured Indian pilot tomorrow,” he told a joint session of Parliament.

Samjhauta Express Suspended - The Railways has decided to suspend operations of the Indo-Pak Samjhauta Express on its side due to drastic decline in occupancy especially after the Pulwama terror attack. Pakistan has already suspended services on its end. Samjhauta Express is an international train covering a short distance of just 3.25 kilometres between Wagah( Pakistan ) and Attari (India).

GDP Growth Slowed Down
GDP Growth Slowed Down - India’s GDP growth is slowed to 6.6 per cent in October-December quarter of FY19, from 7 per cent a year ago, data released by Central Statistics Office (CSO).  This is the lowest growth in the last six quarters. The slowdown was led by agriculture, which is estimated to grow at 2.7%, against the earlier estimate of 3.8%.

RBI Signed Swap BSA Agreement - The Reserve Bank of India and Bank of Japan have completed signing of the Agreement for Bilateral Swap Arrangement (BSA) between India and Japan. This BSA provides for India to access USD 75 billion and was approved by the Union Cabinet in January 2019. India can access the agreed amount of USD 75 billion for its domestic currency for the purpose of maintaining an appropriate level of balance of payments or short-term liquidity.

Government Acquired NHB - The Union Cabinet approved Rs 1,450 crore for the share capital of Reserve Bank of India in the National Housing Bank. Subsequent to the payment of this amount to RBl, the subscribed capital of NHB shall stand transferred to and vested in the Central government. The National Housing Bank (NHB) has been set up to operate as the principal agency to promote housing finance institutions in India.

Cabinet Approved Aadhaar ordinance - The Union cabinet approved the promulgation of an ordinance to allow the voluntary use of Aadhaar for opening a bank account and procuring a mobile connection. The Aadhaar ordinance will permit telecom companies and banks to use Aadhaar for KYC with completely voluntary basis under the Telegraph Act and PMLA rules and informed consent of a customer and no person will be denied any service if he is unable or if he refuses to furnish Aadhaar number.

FAME India Policy - The union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the second phase of FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India) policy to promote use of electric vehicles in the country. The government will spend Rs 10,000 crore over a period of three years from 2019-20 to 2021-22. The main objective of the scheme is to encourage faster adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles by way of offering upfront incentive on purchase of electric vehicles.

National Mineral Policy - The Cabinet approved National Mineral Policy 2019 which will "lead to sustainable mining sector development" in future, while addressing the issues of project affected persons, especially those residing in tribal areas. The 2019 policy proposes to grant status of industry to mining activity to boost financing of mining for private sector and for acquisitions of mineral assets in other countries by private sector.

The scheme aims to boost the employment skills of Indian youth by providing them with ‘on the job work exposure’ through the National Apprenticeship Promotional Scheme (NAPS) and the National Career Service (NCS).

Jamaat-e-Islami Banned - Separatist group Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir was banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for alleged anti-national and subversive activities. A notification on the ban was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) after a high-level meeting on security, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
