Extradition Of Vijay Mallya - UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid ordered the extradition of Vijay Mallya to India. Earlier Vijay Mallya had lost a legal challenge against his extradition in a British court in December. Under the Extradition Treaty procedures, the Chief Magistrate’s verdict was sent to the Home Secretary because only he is authorised to order Mallya’s extradition. Mallya can appeal against the decision of the UK Home Secretary within 14 days of the order. In case no appeal is made, he will be extradited within 28 days.

Human Space Flight Centre - The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) unveiled its Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) at ISRO Headquarter campus in Bengaluru. ISRO is gearing up for its maiden manned mission Gaganyaan, which is planned for 2021-end. The plan is to have the first unmanned mission in December 2020 and the second one in July 2021. Once the two unmanned missions are completed, the manned mission will happen in December 2021. S Unnikrishnan Nair is the founder director of HSFC, while R Hutton is the project director of Gaganyaan.

EVM Tampering -  Leaders of Opposition parties approached the Election Commission to express concerns about the possibility of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) being tampered with. They demanded that the ECI should ensure that 50% of the EVM results were matched and cross-checked with voter verifiable paper audit trails (VVPATs) before it declared the results in the Lok Sabha election.

Aadhaar Card for PM KISAN Yojana - The centre has made Aadhaar number of small and marginal farmers optional for availing the first installment of Rs 2,000 under the recently launched Rs 75,000 crore PM-Kisan scheme. However, to get the subsequent installments, it has been made compulsory for farmers to show Aadhaar number for verifying their identity. In the interim budget, Finance Minister Piyush Goyal announced direct income support of Rs 6,000 per year to 12 crore small and marginal farmers holding cultivable land up to 2 hectares.

National Road Safety Week - The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will be launching the 30th National Road Safety Week on February 4, 2019. A motor car rally is organized to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. The rally will travel through places historically associated with Gandhiji, both in India, as well as in Bangladesh and Myanmar. This rally will conclude at Yangon in Myanmar on the 24th of this month, covering a total distance of over seven thousand kilometre.

Special Postage Stamp on Kumbh Mela - Union Minister of State for Railways and Communication, Manoj Sinha released five rupees special postage stamp on Kumbh Mela. Kumbh 2019’ began at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh on January 15, 2019 and will go on till March 4, 2019. The Mela was also included in the list of “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 2017.

Reservation For Local Youth - Madhya Pradesh government made it mandatory for all industries in the state to provide 70% employment to local youth. As per the new industrial policy, the government has decided to set up training sessions and employment fairs in each district to register unemployed youth who will be provided stipend and later jobs under the 70% clause.
