1.         Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for a term of five years.
2.         United India Insurance Company announced the appointment of K B Vijay Srinivas as its Director and General Manager.
3.         Saraswati Prasad has taken over the additional charge as chairman and managing director of steel PSU Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
4.         India on July 1, 2018 observed the 1st Goods and Services Tax (GST) Day to commemorate the first year of the unprecedented reform of Indian taxation.
5.         The Reserve Bank of India announced to shortly issue Rs 100 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series. The new banknote bears a motif of ‘Rani Ki Vav’ on the reverse. The base colour of the note is Lavender. The dimensions of the banknote will be 66 mm × 142 mm.
6.         The Life Insurance Corporation of India board has approved acquiring up to 51 per cent stake in state-run IDBI Bank. Till end of June 2018, LIC owned about 8 per cent of IDBI Bank, while the federal government owned 86 per cent.
7.         The Reserve Bank of India has issued the license to Bank of China to launch operations in India. With this, Bank of China becomes the second Chinese bank after the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China to have a branch in India.
8.         The Supreme Court refused to put a stay on the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) circular prohibiting banks and financial institutions from dealing in virtual currencies. With this ruling, all virtual currency transactions through banks would be blocked with effect from July 6, 2018. A bench hearing a petition filed by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
9.         India has surpassed France to become the world’s 6th largest economy, as per World Bank. The United States leads the list followed by China, Japan, Germany and Britain.
10.     India formally became the 69th shareholder of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
11.     Andhra Pradesh has topped the government’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ Index 2018 followed by Telangana and Haryana. 
12.     Michael Ondaatje’s bestselling novel 'The English Patient' was announced as the winner of the Golden Man Booker Prize in London. The prize was instituted as part of celebrations to mark the Booker’s having completed 50 years.
13.     The heads of government of BRICS nations including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa convened for the 10th BRICS Summit from July 25-27, 2018 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The theme of summit is ‘BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution'.  Besides the BRICS Summit 2018, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the BRICS Outreach with leaders from Africa and Outreach with leaders from Global South summit.
14.     Two Indians, namely, Bharat Vatwani and Sonam Wangchuk won the 2018 Ramon Magsaysay Award. Bharat Vatwani is a psychiatrist who works for the mentally-ill street persons, while, Sonam Wangchuk works to harness science and culture creatively for economic progress. Other four winners are - Youk Chhang from Cambodia, Maria de Lourdes Martins Cruz from East Timor, Howard Dee from the Philippines and Vo Thi Hoang Yen rom Vietnam.
15.     Prime Minister Narendra Modi left on a three-nation visit to Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa. In the first leg of his five-day visit, Mr Modi will reach Rwanda. India will extend two lines of credit of 100 million US Dollars (Total 200 Million Dollars) each for agriculture and industrial sectors to Rwanda during his two-day visit to that country. India and Rwanda signed eight agreements following delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda.
16.     On second leg he will leave for Uganda. Two lines of credit worth 164 million US Dollars will be extended to Uganda during the visit. 
17.     In the last leg of his visit, Prime Minister Modi will reach South Africa to attend the 10th BRICS summit at Johannesburg. 
18.     The 8th BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting was held at Durban, South Africa.  Indian deligation was led by Mr J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare. He stated that India is committed to eliminating TB by 2025.
19.     The 4th BIMSTEC Summit will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal. 
20.     India and China reiterated their commitment to maintain peace and tranquility along their border by enhancing communications between their militaries. The agreement came during a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the annual BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.
21.     Hindi poet Gopal Das Neeraj passed away in New Delhi after a prolonged illness. He won 3 Filmfare awards and penned some of the all-time hits like Likhe jo khat tujhe. He was conferred with Padma Shri in 1991 and Padma Bhushan in 2007. 
22.     Facebook has confirmed it is working on a new satellite project, named Athena, that will provide broadband internet connections to rural and underserved areas. The company aims to launch satellite in early 2019.
23.     According to the Public Affairs Index 2018, Kerala is the best-governed state in the country, released by a Bengaluru think-tank, Public Affairs Centre. Bihar ranked the lowest.
24.     Private Sector Lender Federal Bank has received the regulatory nod to open offices in Bahrain, Kuwait and Singapore.
25.     The All India Football Federation (AIFF) named Sunil Chhetri as the AIFF Player of the Year.
26.     Considering the increasing incidents of mob lynching, the Union Government constituted a High Level Committee chaired by the Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba to deliberate in the matter and make recommendations. 
27.     The World Hepatitis Day was observed globally on July 28, 2018 with the theme "Test. Treat. Hepatitis".
28.     India on July 26, 2018 celebrated the 19th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas to mark the success of ‘Operation Vijay’ and to remember the supreme sacrifice of the Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the 1999 India-Pakistan Kargil War.
29.     An Indian Air Force contingent comprising of four Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft on July 24, 2018 landed at Darwin Air Force Base, Australia for participating in the Multi-National Exercise Pitch Black-2018. 
30.     Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced that he will take oath as Prime Minister on August 11, 2018. Khan’s party PTI emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly in the Pakistan polls.
31.     The telecom ministry approved the merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular Ltd. The combined operations of Idea and Vodafone will create the country’s largest telecom operator. Vodafone will own 45.1% stake in the combined entity, while Kumar Mangalam Birla-led Aditya Birla Group and Idea shareholders would have 26% and 28.9%, respectively. Balesh Sharma, Chief Operating Officer of Vodafone India, will be the CEO of New Company named Vodafone Idea.
32.     US President Donald Trump held first-ever one-to-one talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 16, 2018 in Helsinki, Finland.
33.     India's indigenously developed surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missile- BrahMos was successfully test-fired from Abdul kalam Island in Odisha. The missile, developed with the help of Russia, has a 290-km target efficiency.
34.     The 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup concluded in Luzhniki Stadium in the Russian capital of Moscow. 32 nations participated in this event.
35.     France clinched their second FIFA World Cup title, beating Croatia 4-2. The win comes for France, 20 years after they claimed their first FIFA title- in 1998. This was the first time that Croatia made it to the finals of the football World Cup. Golden Boot Award (Top goal scorer) - Harry Kane (6 Goals, England),  Golden Ball Award (Best player) - Luka Modric (Croatia), Golden Glove Award (Best goalkeeper) - Thibaut Courtois (Belgium)
36.     Union Government has granted the Institutions of Eminence status to six institutions including 3 from Public Sector and 3 from Private Sector. Three Public Universities are - Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay, IIT-Delhi and IISc Bangalore. And Three Private Universities are - Jio Institute by Reliance Foundation, BITS Pilani and Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
37.     Reliance Industries Chairman and India's richest person Mukesh Ambani dethroned Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba's Co-founder Jack Ma to become Asia's richest person as RIL shares hit an all-time high. Ambani's net worth now stands at $44.3 billion as compared to Jack Ma's $44 billion wealth, according to Bloomberg.
38.     As part of Indo-US Bilateral Defence Cooperation, the 7th Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) meeting was held between India and the US delegation in New Delhi. 
39.     Airtel Payments Bank has received requisite approvals from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to begin taking new customers. Also, Aadhaar-issuing authority UIDAI has allowed it to use the 12-digit unique identification number-based e-KYC.
40.     National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has completed 36 years of service to the nation and celebrated the 37th Foundation Day on 12th July. A national seminar on 'Collectivisation and Market linkages: Farmers Producers Organizations' was organized in Mumbai. NABARD was established on 12 July 1982.
41.     Jana Small Finance Bank announced the commercial launch of its banking operations. Ajay Kanwal is the MD and CEO of Jana Small Finance Bank. The registered office of Jana Small Finance Bank is in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
42.     The finance ministry has approved an infusion of Rs 11,336 crore in five state-owned lenders including PNB, Corporation Bank and Andhra Bank to help them meet the regulatory capital requirement. Punjab National Bank - Rs 2,816 crore (Highest Amount), Allahabad Bank - Rs 1,790 crore, Andhra Bank - Rs 2,019 crore.
43.     Repco Micro Finance Ltd, a non-banking finance company promoted by Repco Bank, received Nabard 2018 award for its service to self-help group (SHG) linkage in Tamil Nadu for the fiscal year 2017-18. 
44.     Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has approved exiting its helicopter service provider Pawan Hans by selling its entire 49% stake. 
45.     The Nelson Mandela International Day was observed globally on July 18, 2018. The international day marks the 100th birth anniversary of Mandela. The Nelson Mandela Foundation is dedicating this year's Mandela Day to 'Action Against Poverty'.
46.     India and Bangladesh Navies agreed to institute a Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) as an annual exercise between both the Navies. 
47.     Dhanlaxmi Bank Limited has appointed T Latha as the Managing Director & CEO.  
48.     Dr. Sandeep Sancheti has assumed charge as President of the Association of Indian Universities.
49.     The 17th World Sanskrit Conference will be held at Vancouver, Canada. 
50.     The Union Government constituted task force under the Chairmanship of PK Sinha to identify various items and policy interventions to reduce dependence on imports.



51.     India was ranked 57th in the latest Global Innovation Index (GII) rankings. Switzerland topped the list. 
52.     Russia has joined five other countries and the European Union to become the latest country to take action through the World Trade Organisation against the United States over the Trump administration's steel and aluminium duties. Moscow initiated a dispute complaint against the US over the 25 percent tariffs on steel and 10 percent tariffs on aluminum.
53.     The Income Tax Department on July 1, 2018 launched the ‘Instant’ Aadhaar-based PAN allotment service for individuals seeking to obtain the unique identity for the first time. The facility is free of cost. A fresh PAN will be allotted on the basis of a one-time password sent on the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar number of a person. The new PAN will have the same name, date of birth, gender, mobile number and address as in the Aadhaar.
54.     Noted artist Anjolie Ela Menon was conferred with the National Kalidas Samman for visual arts from the Madhya Pradesh government.
55.     Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador won Mexico’s presidency in a landslide victory.
56.     Rita Teaotia is chairman of Task Force on e-commerce.
57.     South Korean President Moon Jae-in arrived in New Delhi. A financing arrangement of 10 billion dollars has been set by the Korean side for infrastructure development in India.
58.     RBI has cancelled the licence of Alwar Urban Co-operative Bank in Alwar, Rajasthan.
59.     Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation has organised a two-day International Round Table Conference on 'Data for New India' in New Delhi.
60.     Asian Development Bank has approved 503-million US Dollar lining project of the Son canal in Shahabad-Bhojpur region of Bihar.
61.     China announced its plans to launch 300 low-orbit satellites to provide worldwide communication services. This 300-satellite array is named as the ‘Hongyan Constellation’.
62.     The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has made it compulsory to incorporate purchaser’s name on the face of payment instrumentalities like demand draft, pay order, banker’s cheques and other instruments to prevent money laundering.
63.     The inaugural ‘two-plus-two dialogue’ between India and the US will be held on September 6, 2018 in New Delhi. Last month, the US had postponed the much-awaited dialogue due to “unavoidable reasons.”
64.     Under pressure to stop rumours and fake news, WhatsApp announced to limit forwarding messages to five chats at once. It will remove the quick forward button next to media messages. Whatsapp had earlier this month launched a ‘forward label’ to identify messages which are not original and have been forwarded. 
65.     ISRO said that it has successfully conducted a ground test of its high thrust version of the Vikas Engine that would improve the payload capability of the space agency's launch vehicles.
66.     The 10th edition of the Delhi Dialogue began in New Delhi. The theme of the event was ‘Strengthening India-ASEAN Maritime Co-operation’.
67.     The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of MoU amongst BRICS Nations on the Regional Aviation Partnership Cooperation (RAPC). The objective is that BRICS countries will benefit from the establishment of an institutional framework to cooperate in the field of civil aviation. 
68.     The US space agency NASA announced to launch the Parker Solar Probe, a robotic car-size spacecraft, to study the Sun.
69.     The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee officially launched its Olympic mascots Miraitowa and Someity.
70.     External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj embarked on a two-day visit to Bahraini, to co-chair the second High Joint Commission meeting with her Bahraini counterpart.
71.     The Speaker of Lok Sabha, Sumitra Mahajan admitted a no-confidence motion moved by the opposition led by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) against the ruling government on July 18, 2018, on the opening day of the Monsoon session of Parliament. The motion was defeated with 325 votes against and 126 in favour with 451 members of the parliament present and voting.
72.     E-commerce giant Amazon briefly crossed $900-billion market cap for the first time in its history becoming only the second company after Apple to achieve this milestone. 
73.     The European Union regulators have slapped Alphabet-owned Google with a record 4.34 billion euro ($5 billion) antitrust fine for abusing the dominance of its Android mobile operating system.

78.     According to the US-based Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) report, Karnataka is the new national leader in renewable energy generation. It has surpassed Tamil Nadu.
79.     HCL Technologies Ltd surpassed Wipro Ltd to become India’s third-biggest software services firm.
80.     Hyderabad will host a 3 day International Blockchain Congress on August 3, 2018. Jointly hosted by NITI Aayog, Telangana & Goa governments, the Congress will bring together over 3000 blockchain enthusiasts, innovators, businesses and regulators.
81.     Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) has been taken away from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and has been brought under the domain of the Union Finance Ministry.
82.     Assam government will implement PRANAM (Parent Responsibility & Norms for Accountability and Monitoring) Scheme from October 2, 2018. The scheme aims to ensure that government staff takes care of their parents & physically challenged siblings. It mandates deduction of 10-15 percent of the gross salary of employees who do not take care of their parents & disabled siblings.
83.     International Tiger Day was celebrated across the world on July 29, 2018 to raise awareness about tiger conservation.
84.     The Rashtrapati Bhawan screened a short film titled ‘Chalo Jeete Hain’ (Come, let us live) which is based on the childhood of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
85.     The West Bengal Assembly passed a resolution to rename the State as ‘Bangla’ in three languages — Bengali, English and Hindi.
86.     The Lok Sabha on July 23, 2018 passed the Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill, 2017. The Bill inserts a provision allowing a court trying an offence related to cheque bouncing, to direct the drawer to pay interim compensation to the complainant.  The interim compensation will not exceed 20 percent of the cheque amount.
87.     Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan unveiled a Air Quality and Weather Forecast System– ‘SAFAR’ (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting) at Chandni Chowk in New Delhi. The giant true colour LED display will give out real-time air quality index on 24x7 basis with colour coding along with 72-hour advance weather forecast. The Environment Ministry’s mission model project ‘SAFAR’ is being implemented in four cities of India – Delhi, Pune, Mumbai and Ahmedabad as an operational service. 
88.     Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda on July 29, 2018 launched the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program to eradicate viral hepatitis by 2030. The program was launched to mark the World Hepatitis Day 2018.
89.     Justice BN Srikrishna Committee submitted its report on the data protection law to Union Minister for Electronics and IT, law and justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad. 
90.     The Union Government has reduced the minimum annual deposit requirement for accounts under Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana from Rs 1000 to Rs 250.
91.     Militaries of India and Pakistan will be part of a mega anti-terror drill in Russia named "Peace Mission" in August 2018 which is being organised by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The exercise will be joined by all SCO member countries including Russia, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
92.     The Union Government has decided to set up a High-Level Empowered Committee headed by Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha to address the issue of stressed thermal power assets.
93.     Invest India and Business France signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote investment facilitation and cooperation between startups of India and France.  Invest India is the official Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency of the Government of India.
94.     Indian banks and financial institutions signed an inter-creditor agreement to fast-track the resolution of stressed assets of Rs 500 crore or above that are under consortium lending. The ICA was prepared in accordance to the recommendations of the Sunil Mehta Committee and under the aegis of Indian Banks' Association (IBA). It is a part of Project Sashakt. The ICA has been signed by 22 public sector banks including SBI, PNB and India Post Payments Bank, 19 private sector banks and 32 foreign banks. The signatories also included 12 major financial institutions such as Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), HUDCO, PFC, and REC.
95.     Veteran actress Rita Bhaduri passed away following a cardiac arrest in Mumbai.
96.     The United Kingdom has been ranked at the top in the 2018 'Soft Power 30' index published by the UK-based strategic communications consultancy firm. The index, which comprises a ranking list of 30 countries, does not feature India.
97.     An accountability court in Pakistan sentenced ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif to 10 years in prison in one of the three corruption cases against him in the high-profile Panama Papers scandal. 
98.     Major General Jose Eladio Alcain of Uruguay was appointed as the Head of Mission and Chief Military Observer for the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). 
99.     The Conference of Ministers for Power, New & Renewable Energy of states & union territories will be held on July 3, 2018 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
100. Facebook Inc. co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has overtaken Warren Buffett as the world’s third-richest person. Zuckerberg, who trails only Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos and Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates, eclipsed Buffett as Facebook shares climbed 2.4%, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.



101. HDFC Bank has gone past Russia's Sberbank to become the most valuable bank in the emerging market outside China. HDFC Bank’s current market capitalisation is $78.4 billion against Sberbank's $74.4 billion. Chinese banks are leading the pecking order in the emerging market, with Industrial & Commercial Bank of China topping the list with a market cap of $273.4 billion.
102. Globally, America's JPMorgan Chase is the most valuable with a market cap of $353 billion, followed by Bank of America at $282 billion. There are four lenders from India that now rank among the world's 500 most valuable companies. HDFC Bank is followed by its housing finance cousin Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), Kotak Mahindra Bank and State Bank of India.
103. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that Reliance is India’s largest payer of Goods and Services Tax (GST), Excise and Customs Duty, and Income Tax in the private sector paying Rs.9844 crore in FY18.
104. Private lender YES Bank announced that it has received final regulatory approval from the Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to start mutual fund business. This approval is subsequent to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) approval. YES Asset Management (India) is a wholly owned subsidiary of YES Bank.
105. ICICI Bank has announced that its mortgage loan portfolio crossed the Rs 1.5-trillion milestone, making it the largest private player in the segment.
106. State-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) will set up a state-of-the-art Civil Aviation Research Organization (CARO) at Hyderabad’s Begumpet Airport.
107. The International Day of Cooperatives was observed across the world on July 7, 2018 with an aim to promote the co-operative model. 2018 theme - Sustainable societies through cooperation.
108. The CBDT on June 30, 2018 extended the deadline for the PAN-Aadhaar linking to March 31, 2019.
109. The 42nd World Heritage Committee meeting concluded on July 4, 2018 in Bahrain's capital Manama, with 19 new sites inscribed to the World Heritage List. The World Heritage List now contains 1,092 sites in 167 countries. 
110. Union Ministers of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore announced that Sports Authority of India (SAI) will now be known as ‘Sports India’.
111. The Law Commission of India, in its 276th report, has recommended legalisation of regulated betting and gambling activities.
112. Sachin Tendulkar has taken to social media to launch #KitupChallenge to encourage people to start playing sports.
113. Union Minister of Coal, Railways, Finance & Corporate Affairs, Piyush Goyal launched the Coal Mine Surveillance & Management System (CMSMS) and Mobile Application ‘Khan Prahari’.
114. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the proposal for expanding the scope of Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) by tasking it to mobilise Rs 1,00,000 crore for Revitalizing Infrastructure and Systems in Education (RISE) by 2022.
115. The government has decided to sharply increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Kharif crops. The MSP for common variety paddy will be raised by Rs 200 over last year’s Rs 1,550 per quintal.
116. IndiaFirst Life Insurance Company Limited, a joint venture between Bank of Baroda, Andhra Bank and Legal and General (UK), has announced its tie-up with Oxigen Services India Pvt. Ltd., to establish the distribution of its insurance products at Oxigen retail outlets.
117. NITI Aayog announced to organise ‘MOVE: Global Mobility Summit’ in New Delhi on September 7-8, 2018. It will help drive Government’s goals for vehicle electrification, renewable energy integration and job growth, thus, speeding up India’s transition to a clean energy economy.
118. A five-judge Supreme Court bench unanimously held that the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi is bound by the “aid and advice” of the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government and both have to work harmoniously with each other. The real authority to take decisions lies in the elected government.
119. Punjab state cabinet decided to recommend to the Centre death penalty for drug peddlers and smugglers.
120. The Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India released the 2011 Census data on Language and Mother Tongue. As per the 2011 census, 43.63 percent of Indians speak Hindi as their mother tongue. Bengali, with 8.03 percent speakers, is second in the list, followed by Marathi at 3rd with 6.86 percent speakers.
121. Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its approval to rename the Agartala Airport in Tripura as ‘Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Kishore Airport’, Agartala.
122. The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the extension of the scheme of recapitalization of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) for the next three years up to 2019-20. The move will enable the RRBs to maintain the minimum prescribed capital to Risk Weighted Assets Ratio (CRAR) of 9 per cent.
