1.     Veteran director Shekhar Kapur was appointed as the chairman of the central panel of the 65th National Film Awards.
2.      Indu Bhushan was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Union Government’s ambitious Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Mission. 
3.      The Supreme Court appointed Justice Jawad Rahim as the acting Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
4.      This year Gallantry awards three Kirti Chakras and 17 Shaurya Chakras were conferred, among which one Kirti Chakra and five Shaurya Chakras were given posthumously. Kirti Chakra - Major David Manlun (Posthumous), Chetan Kumar Cheeta, Major Vijayant Bist.
5.      Canadian mathematician Robert Langlands was awarded with the 2018 Abel Prize for his revolutionary 'Grand Unified Theory of Maths'.
6.      The research body of the Union Health Ministry – the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) – was awarded the International Kochon Prize 2017 in New Delhi for its contribution to the national programme in Tuberculosis research.
7.      The Union Government has approved a proposal to institute the ‘Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Police Investigation’ to promote high professional standards of crime investigation among police forces. The awards would be conferred annually on the basis of the average crime data for the last three years.
8.      Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi was awarded with 2018 Pritzker Prize for being able to interpret architecture and transform it into buildings that respect Eastern culture. 
9.      The Acing Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice Gita Mittal will be conferred the ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar 2017’ by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
10.  The 90th Academy Awards, popularly known as Oscar Awards, were conferred. The award ceremony, hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, was held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. 11.  Eminent Hindi poet and Jnanpith awardee Kedarnath Singh passed away in New Delhi following a prolonged illness.
12.  Renowned physicist and modern cosmology patron, Stephen Hawking, passed away at his home in Cambridge. His most notable work has been on the basic laws which govern the universe - including theories about the Big Bang and black holes. Hawkings wrote ‘A Brief History of Time’ explaining complex scientific theories to the masses. His speech started to slur and he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - a form of motor neurone disease at the age of 21, in 1963.
13.  The Economist Intelligence Unit’s latest Worldwide Cost of Living report 2018 has ranked Singapore as the world’s most expensive city for the fifth straight year, while Syrian capital Damascus was ranked as the world’s cheapest city. The other cities that were ranked as the most expensive include Paris and Zurich, which were tied at the second position.
14.  The Annual Survey of India’s City-Systems (ASICS) ranked the city of Pune at the top with a score of 5.1 and Karnataka’s capital city Bengaluru at the bottom with a score of 3.0. The other cities featuring among the top 5 include Kolkata at 2nd position followed by Thiruvanathapuram at the 3rd position and Bhubaneswar at the 4th position.
15.  According to The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri) five biggest exporters - the United States, Russia, France, Germany and China in 2013–17. India was the world’s largest importer of major arms in 2013–17 and accounted for 12 per cent of the global total. Russia accounted for 62 per cent of India’s arms imports in 2013–17.
16.  HN Nagamohan Das Committee, a seven-member expert committee constituted by Karnataka Government to examine the demand for a separate religion tag for Lingayats, submitted a report recommending “Religious Minority” status for Lingayat community
17.  The Union Government constituted a Steering Committee to study various issues related to Fintech (Financial technology) space in India. The Committee will operate under the Chairmanship of Subhash Chandra Garg.
18.  The World Tuberculosis Day was observed across the globe on March 24, 2018. The theme of the World Tuberculosis Day 2018 is 'Wanted: Leaders for a TB-free world'. 
19.  The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination was observed across the globe on March 21, 2018 with an aim to eliminate all the forms of racial discrimination. The theme was 'Promoting tolerance, inclusion, unity and respect for diversity in the context of combating racial discrimination'. 
20.  The World Consumer Rights Day was observed across the world on March 15, 2018 with an aim to promote basic rights of consumers and to ensure that these rights are respected and protected. The theme of 2018 World Consumer Rights Day is 'Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer'. 
21.  The World Wildlife Day was observed across the world on March 3, 2018. The theme of World Wildlife Day 2018 is 'Big cats: Predators Under Threat'. 
22.  The Zero Discrimination Day was observed across the globe on March 1, 2018, urging people to embrace diversity and recognize the diverse set of talents and skills that each person brings.
23.  The first phase of Indo-French joint naval exercise Varuna 2018  began on March 19, 2018 at the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) in Vasco da Gama, Goa. The exercise is being held in the Arabian Sea, off the Goa coast. 
24.  The first-ever multilateral Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise of the Indian Air Force in association with South Asian Region nations began off the coast of Kerala. The exercise named 'Samvedna' is the first composite HADR exercise in the South Asian Region. The exercise will involve representatives from the air forces of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates.
25.  The Anti Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) NAG was successfully flight-tested in Rajasthan. Missile can be launched from both land and air-based platforms.



26.  The Indian Space Research Organisation would be launching GSLV-F08 mission carrying the GSAT-6A communication satellite on March 29, 2018 from the second launch pad in Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
27.  The Securities and Exchanges Board of India (SEBI) accepted major recommendations suggested by the Uday Kotak Committee on Corporate Governance. One of the major recommendations of the committee was to separate the post of CEO or MD and Chairperson of the listed companies. 
28.  Krishnaswamy Vijay Raghavan was appointed as the principal scientific adviser to the government of India. 
29.  RBI will soon come out with a Rs 350 commemorative coin to mark 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th and last Sikh Guru. The coin with standard weight of 35 gram will have 50 per cent silver, 40 per cent copper and 5 per cent each of nickel and zinc. The coin will bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with "Satyamev Jayate" inscribed below.
30.  The Supreme Court termed the interference by illegal assemblies like ‘khap panchayat’ in marriages of two consenting adults as’ absolutely illegal’ and laid down guidelines to prevent such intrusions.
31.  Standing in solidarity with the United Kingdom, more than 21 nations led by the United States announced the expulsion of over 100 Russian diplomats. Britain has already expelled 23 Russian diplomats. It follows allegations against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime for having a hand in the poisoning of a former Russian spy in the United Kingdom. 
32.  The Union Cabinet approved the launch of the Centrally sponsored 'Ayushman Bharat -National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM)'. The scheme has the benefit cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year. The scheme aims to target over 10 crore families belonging to poor and vulnerable population based on Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011 (SECC) database. There will be no cap on family size and age in the scheme. 
33.  Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologised for the data debacle that has dragged the social media giant into a huge controversy. After the news of analytics company Cambridge Analytica scandal and facebook’s alleged data breach erupted, politicians called on the social media founder to testify before their legislative bodies within five days. The analytics company is alleged to have a hand in assisting with Donald Trump’s victory in US Presidential Elections 2016, by using unethically gathered data to manipulate voter behaviour.
34.  Vladimir Putin elected a fourth time Presidential elections of Russia. The thumping mandate gives Putin another six years of power.
35.  The Union Government has decided to declare 2018 as 'National Year of Millets to boost the cultivation of millets like ragi and jowar on a mission mode to achieve nutritional security. 
36.  The Delhi High Court set aside the Centre's notification disqualifying 20 AAP MLAs in the office-of-profit case.
37.  The Punjab Government observed March 23, 2018, the martyrdom day of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev and Shaheed Rajguru as 'Youth Empowerment Day'.
38.  Among a total of 58 Rajya Sabha seats to be filled, 33 candidates from 10 states were declared elected unopposed on March 15. Voting for the remaining 25 seats was held in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Telangana and Kerala.
39.  India successfully flight tested the supersonic cruise missile, BrahMos from Pokhran test range in Rajasthan. The air-launched variant of the BrahMos was test fired from a Sukhoi-30 combat jet to enhance the precision strike capability of the air force. 
40.  India signed a double taxation avoidance agreement (DTAA) with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to improve transparency in tax matters and help curb tax evasion and avoidance.
41.  The Government of India approved the setting up of a Plastic Park in Deoghar District, Jharkhand. 
42.  The first G20 meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors began in Buenos Aires, Argentina with the presence of 57 delegations from countries and institutions.
43.  Sony India announced the appointment of Sunil Nayyar as its Managing Director (MD) in place of Kenichiro Hibi.
44.  Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang was re-elected for his second five-year term by the members of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC), Chinese Parliament, during its ongoing session. 
45.  Commerce and Industries Minister Suresh Prabhu was given the additional charge of the Civil Aviation Ministry. The Minister assumed the role soon after the resignation of Ashok Gajapathi Raju of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was accepted by President Ram Nath Kovind.
46.  Nepal’s first woman President Bidya Devi Bhandari was re-elected for a second term in office with an overwhelming majority.
47.  Angela Merkel was sworn in as Chancellor of Germany for a fourth term on March 15, 2018.
48.  Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico officially resigned.
49.  India was ranked at 78th among 114 countries on World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Energy Transition Index (ETI) released as part of report titled Fostering Effective Energy Transition. Top 10 countries in Energy Transition Index were Sweden (1st), Norway (2nd), Switzerland (3rd).
50.  The Philippines formally submitted the Letter of Withdrawal from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).



51.  The United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Solutions Network published the World Happiness Report 2018. The Report comprises the World Happiness Index, a landmark survey to know the state of global happiness. It ranked 156 countries. This year's World Happiness Index ranked Finland as the happiest country in the world.  India ranked 133rd in the list, far behind terror-ravaged Pakistan (75th Rank) in the global list of the happiest countries. India slipped 11 places from 122nd position last year.
52.  Noted film and television actor Narendra Jha passed away following a heart attack.
53.  The Supreme Court of India extended the deadline of March 31 for linking of Aadhaar card to various bank accounts, mobile phones and government schemes indefinitely. 
54.  Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi launched a campaign to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) from India by 2025, five years ahead of the globally-set deadline. The target for eradicating the terminal disease in India has been set for 2025, five years ahead of the global target of 2030.  
55.  The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) in association with Facebook launched "Design4India Studio" in Bengaluru.
56.  India won the ‘Best Exhibitor Award’ at the ‘ITB –Berlin World Tourist Meet’, which convened at Berlin, Germany from March 7-10, 2018.
57.  The GST Council recommended the introduction of e-way bill for inter-State movement of goods across the country from April 1, 2018. For intra-State movement of goods, e-way bill system will be introduced in a phased manner not later than June 2018. E-way bill is required to be generated only where the value of the consignment exceeds Rs 50000. For smaller value consignments, no e-way bill is required.
58.  The Sri Lankan government has decided to declare a nation-wide emergency for a period of 10 days to control the law and order situation following the outbreak of violence against the minority community in its central district, Kandy.
59.  American magazine Forbes released the 32nd annual World's Billionaires List comprising names of a record 2208 billionaires. Jeff Bezos topped the World's Billionaires List for the first time with a fortune of USD 112 billion. Bill Gates dropped to 2nd position this year with a fortune of USD 90 billion.
60.  Mukesh Ambani leads Indians in Forbes' Billionaires List with net worth of USD 40.1 billion. He secured 19th global rank on the list of 2208 billionaires worldwide.
61.  The United Nations children's agency (UNICEF) stated that India has seen a sharp decline in child marriages over the last ten years with only 27 per cent of girls getting married before 18 years in comparison to 47 per cent a decade back.
62.  The International Women's Day 2018 was observed across the world on March 8, 2018. The theme of International Women’s Day 2018 was 'Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives'.
63.  Recognising right to die with dignity as a fundamental right, the Supreme Court (SC) ruled that the passive euthanasia and advance 'living will' are permissible. The apex court ruled that individuals can draft a living will specifying that they shall not be put on life support if they undergo an incurable coma in the future.
64.  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Nutrition Mission and Pan India Expansion of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) covering all 640 districts of the country at a mega event held at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan on March 8, 2018, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. 
65.  BJP leader Biplab Kumar Deb was sworn in as the 10th Chief Minister of Tripura on March 9, 2018. Jishnu Debbarman took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister.
66.  Famous Sufi singer Pyare Lal Wadali died of cardiac arrest in a hospital in Amritsar. He was the younger brother of Puran Chand Wadali of the Wadali brothers. 
67.  Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Neiphiu Rio was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Nagaland. Rio's NDPP is allied with the BJP, and has the support of the JD(U) and an Independent - giving it the backing of 32 of the 60 MLAs in the state. Rio has served as the state's CM three times before this, between 2003 and 2014.
68.  The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) launched Udyam Sakhi Portal for women entrepreneurs of India on the occasion of International Women’s Day. 
69.  India is all set to become the 69th member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) after shareholders of the international financial institution gave their nod to the country’s candidature.
70.  India and Pakistan agreed on a proposal to release elderly, women, children and mentally unsound prisoners held in each other's jails on humanitarian grounds.

72.  The WTO has agreed to set up a panel to determine whether India has complied with its ruling in a case against the United States regarding domestic content requirements for solar cells and modules.

74.  Conrad Sangma, the President of National People's Party (NPP), was sworn-in as the 12th Chief Minister of Meghalaya. 
75.  The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the proposal of the Ministry of Finance to introduce the Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018 in Parliament. The main objective of the bill is to lay down measures to deter fugitive economic offenders from evading the process of Indian law by remaining outside the jurisdiction of Indian courts. The cases where the total value involved in such offenses is Rs. 100 crore or more, will come under the purview of the Bill. 



76.  The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its approval for the establishment of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA). The NFRA will be established as an independent regulator for the auditing profession. The development is one of the key changes brought in by the Companies Act, 2013.
77.  The Odisha government has launched a programme called Ama Gaon, Ama Vikas (Our Village, our development) to reach out to the people in rural areas and involve themselves in the developmental activities. 
78.  Latest official data reveals that India's exposure to US government securities rose sharply to a high of $144.7 billion at the end of 2017. India remained to be the 12th largest overseas holder of such securities, just behind oil rich Saudi Arabia, whose holding stood at $147.4 billion in December 2017. China was the largest holder of US government securities in 2017 with holdings to the tune of $1.18 trillion, followed by Japan at $1.06 trillion.
79.  The Union Cabinet approved signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India, United Kingdom and Northern Ireland regarding cooperation and Exchange of Information for the purposes of combating international criminality and tackling serious organised crime.
80.  The Union Cabinet approved the revision of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) between India and Qatar for the avoidance of double taxation and for the prevention of fiscal evasion.
81.  NITI Aayog released comprehensive roadmaps and detailed timelines for its initiative ‘Sustainable Action for Transforming Human Capital in Education (SATH-E)’ project in New Delhi. The main objective of the SATH-E project is to make the entire governmental school education system responsive, aspirational and transformational for every child.
82.  The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) released the report titled 'Fostering Effective Energy Transition', ranking 114 countries on how well they are able to balance energy security and access with environmental sustainability and affordability. The report's Energy Transition Index ranked India at the 78th position. The Index was topped by Sweden.
83.  The Supreme Court of India ruled that foreign law firms cannot set up offices in India but their lawyers could visit in 'fly in and fly out' mode to give legal advice on foreign laws to clients, which would be casual in nature.
84.  University Grants Commission made a historic move by granting autonomy to 60 higher educational institutions that have maintained high academic standards. The 60 higher educational institutions that have been granted autonomy include 5 central universities, 21 state universities, 24 deemed universities and 2 private universities and 8 autonomous colleges.
85.  The first ever Indo-French Knowledge Summit ended successfully with a landmark agreement on mutual recognition of educational qualifications between the two countries.
86.  In a first, India's app-based helitaxi service was launched in Bengaluru. The maiden trip of the helitaxi took off from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to Electronics City, ferrying passengers in 15 minutes. This helicopter taxi service was launched by Kochi-based Thumby Aviation Private Limited.
87.  The Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari would be launching a new mobile application called ‘Sukhad Yatra’ and a toll-free emergency number for highway users in New Delhi. The toll-free number- 1033 - will enable users to report an emergency condition.
88.  The Union Government signed a $120 million loan agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for completion of works for double-tracking and electrification of railway tracks along high-density corridors to improve operational efficiency of Indian railways.
89.  The US Trade Representative (USTR) challenged Indian export subsidy schemes at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) by claiming that these programmes will harm American workers through creating an "uneven" playing field.
90.  Iraq has become India’s biggest crude oil supplier by overtaking Saudi Arabia with a wide margin in this current financial year. Iraq supplied 38.9 million tonnes (MT) of oil, which was more than 20% of country’s oil needs.
91.  Malaysian Government tabled a bill in parliament to outlaw fake news proposing hefty fines and 10 years in jail for publishers of fake news.
92.  The International Solar Alliance signed the Headquarters Agreement with the Indian Government, enabling the ISA to establish its headquarters in the Host Country to discharge its functions and programmes. 
93.  India and France signed 14 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) following the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emanuel Macron in New Delhi. The MoUs call for cooperation in various fields such as nuclear energy, defence production, maritime security, space and education.
94.  The Marshall Islands will launch the world's first legal tender crypto-currency. To issue the crypto-currency, the Marshall Islands nation has teamed up with a company Neema from Israel. The Neema will issue 24 million units of the Sovereign digital currency SOV.
95.  Women and Child Development Ministry has approved projects worth over Rs 2,900 crore under the Nirbhaya fund for eight major cities to make them safer for women. These cities are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Lucknow.
96.  The Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang has arrived in India on the 3-day visit.

98.  Indian companies can now participate in construction and installation works in the “non-critical” category for the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. The Rooppur project is the first initiative under an Indo-Russian deal to undertake atomic energy projects in third countries.

100.       International Olympic Committee (IOC) has restored Russia's Olympic membership with immediate effect following its suspension from the Winter Olympics at Pyeongchang in South Korea. Russia was banned from February's Games by the IOC over state-sponsored doping. 



101.       Navjot Kaur has clinched the 1st gold medal for India in the Asian Wrestling championship in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. 
102.       India and Vietnam inked three agreements in the areas of trade, agriculture and atomic energy. The countries signed an MoU on economic and trade cooperation to establish a framework for enhancing economic and trade promotion.

105.       The Reserve Bank of India has decided to do away with the per borrower loan limits to Micro/Small and Medium Enterprises (Services) for classification under priority sector lending. So far, loans to Micro/Small and Medium Enterprises (Services) up to Rs5 crore and Rs10 crore, respectively, were classified as priority sector lending (PSL). Now all bank loans to MSMEs engaged in providing or rendering services as defined in terms of investment in equipment under the MSMED Act, 2006, will qualify under priority sector without any credit cap.

116.       French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in New Delhi on a four-day visit to India. The visit aims at strengthening the bilateral economic, political and strategic dimension of engagement between the two countries.

120.       The Karnataka government unveiled the State flag (nada dhwaja ) for the state. If approved by the Centre, Karnataka will be the second State to have a flag after Jammu and Kashmir.
