1.         6th Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement Released by RBI. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to keep the policy repo rate unchanged at 6.0%.

2.         India’s Aadhaar won the best emerging technology award at the recently concluded World Government Summit 2018 in Dubai. India was the ‘Guest of Honour’ country at the summit.
3.         Renowned Kannada playwright, poet, novelist Chandrashekhara Kambara was elected as the President of the Sahitya Akademi.
4.         Sahitya Akademi conferred the annual Sahitya Akademi Awards for the year 2017 on litterateurs of 23 different regional languages. Ramesh Kuntal Megh won the award in Hindi for his literary criticism work Vishw Mithak Sarit Sagar.
5.         Magahi writer Shesh Anand Madhukar was honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Bhasha Samman Award 2018.
6.         The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW) has released a report on the financial, educational and criminal background of all the current Chief Ministers. The average of assets per Chief Minister from state assemblies was estimated to be around Rs 16.18 Crores. The Chief Ministers with the highest assets included Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu (177 cr+). The Chief Ministers with lowest assets included Tripura CM Manik Sarkar (26 L+).
7.         Niti Aayog released a comprehensive 'Healthy States, Progressive India' report in New Delhi. The healthy state progressive report ranked Kerala, Punjab and Tamil Nadu at the top among the larger states in terms of overall performance.
8.         A report by New World Wealth has ranked India in the sixth position in the list of wealthiest countries. It noted that India was the best-performing wealth market globally in 2017, as its total wealth increased from USD 6,584 billion in 2016 to USD 8,230 billion in 2017, registering a 25 per cent growth. The United States is the wealthiest country in the world with a total wealth of USD 64,584 billion.
9.         Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the World Sustainable Development Summit 2018 (WSDS 2018) in New Delhi. The summit’s theme this year was ‘Partnerships for a Resilient Planet’.
10.     A National Conference with the title ‘Agriculture 2022 – Doubling Farmers’ Income’ will be organised by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare in New Delhi.
11.     The World Cancer Day was observed across the world on February 4, 2018 with an aim to unite the world’s population in the fight against cancer. The theme for the World Cancer Day 2016-2018 is ‘We can. I can.’
12.     The International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation was observed on February 6, 2018. 
13.     The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was observed across the world on February 11, 2018 with an aim to achieve full and equal participation of women and girls in science and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
14.     The National Productivity Council on February 12, 2018 observed the National Productivity Day 2018. The council is also observing the National Productivity Week till February 18, 2018 with the theme 'Industry 4.0 Leapfrog Opportunity for India'.
15.     The World Day of Social Justice was observed across the world on February 20, 2018. The theme of World Day of Social Justice 2018 is 'Workers on the Move: the Quest for Social Justice'. 
16.     The International Mother Language Day 2018 was observed across the world on February 21, 2018. The theme of 2018 International Mother Language Day is 'Linguistic diversity and multilingualism count for sustainable development'. 
17.     The National Science Day 2018 was observed across India on February 28, 2018. The theme of National Science Day 2018 is 'Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future'. 
18.     In a first, the armies of India and Vietnam on January 29, 2018 began a six-day long military exercise in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Titled ‘VINBAX’, it will continue for six days.
19.     India on February 6, 2018 successfully test-fired nuclear capable Agni-I ballistic missile as part of a user trial from a test range off the Odisha coast. The trial was conducted by the Strategic Forces Command of the Indian Army at Abdul Kalam Island in Balasore, Odisha. It is a 700 km long range missile.
20.     India on February 7, 2018 successfully test-fired indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile from Odisha. Prithvi-II missile has a strike range of 350 kilometres. The naval operational variant of Prithvi-II class missile is known as Dhanush.

21.     To expedite capital acquisitions to bolster armed forces preparedness, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has constituted a 13-member Raksha Mantri Advisory Committee on Ministry of Defence Capital Projects (RMCOMP). The committee will be headed by Vinay Sheel Oberoi.
22.     The Indian army would be deploying about 2300 personnel in South Sudan, as a part of UN’s peacekeeping mission in the war-torn nation.
23.     Indian Army on February 20, 2018 successfully test-fired nuclear-capable Agni-II ballistic missile from the Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. It has a strike range of more than 2000 km. 
24.     India on February 21, 2018 successfully conducted night trial of indigenously developed surface-to-surface nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile off Odisha coast. The Strategic Forces Command of the Indian Army conducted the user trial of this 350 km range missile from a mobile launcher at Chandipur near Balasore in Odisha. 
25.     India on February 23, 2018 test-fired the surface-to-surface Dhanush ballistic missile from a naval ship off Odisha’s coast. The nuclear-capable missile with a strike range of 350 km is a naval variant of the indigenously-developed Prithvi-II missile. It was test-fired from a naval warship positioned near Paradip in the Bay of Bengal.
26.     The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on February 25, 2018  successfully conducted the test-flight of India's home-made drone 'Rustom 2' at its Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) at Chitradurga, Karnataka. Rustom 2 is being developed on the lines of predator drones of the United States with an aim to carry out Intelligence and Surveillance.
27.     Andaman & Nicobar Command of Indian Navy will host the multinational mega event MILAN 2018 in the second week of March 2018. The theme of MILAN 2018 will be 'Friendship Across the Seas'.
28.     Sridevi, a Bollywood actress died on February 24, 2018 in Dubai following a cardiac arrest. Sridevi's real name was Shree Amma Yanger Ayappan.
29.     Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, the Kanchi Shankaracharya, passed away on February 28, 2018 in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. He will be succeeded by the junior pontiff Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi.
30.     Twenty-times Grand Slam winner Roger Federer has won the 2017 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year and Comeback of the Year awards. 
31.     India was ranked 47th out of 86 nations in the Inclusive Internet Index 2018, which was released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). 
32.     China-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved USD 1.5 billion in loans to India for infrastructure-related projects in 2018. The funds would be used for investment in India's energy, roads and urban development projects.
33.     China was elected as the Vice President of Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a global body mandated to combat terror financing and money laundering. China's election to the FATF assumes significance as Pakistan is set to be put in the FATF 'grey list' in June 2018. The grey lists puts countries under the scanner for not implementing the objectives of the task force.
34.     The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a blue coloured 'Baal Aadhaar' card for children below the age of five years. The card will be issued to children in the age group without any biometric details but they will be required to complete a mandatory verification process when they turn five and then again when they are 15 years old.
35.     The 21st national conference on e-Governance is being held in Hyderabad. Theme - 'Technology for accelerating development'. 
36.     Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched various development projects worth Rs 1000 crores in Daman & Diu. 
37.     China paved the way for third consecutive term of President Xi Jinping by proposing removal of 2-term limit for President. The proposal was made by Communist Party of China (CPC) through amendments to China's Constitution. It proposed that the President and the Vice-President shall not be constitutionally restricted to two consecutive terms in office. Xi Jinping, who is serving his second consecutive five-year term, can now continue beyond 2023. Xi was named as the President of China in 2012. His first five-year term as president came to an end in 2017.
38.     The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) launched ‘Ombudsman Scheme’ for non-banking financial companies (NBFC) for redressal of complaints against them. The Scheme will be known as ‘Ombudsman Scheme for Non-Banking Financial Companies, 2018’.
39.     The Chairman and MD of Reliance Industries Limited, Mukesh Ambani announced that his company would be investing around Rs 60,000 crores in a collaborative initiative in the state of Maharashtra, over the next 10 years.
40.     CCEA approved the methodology for auction of coal mines for sale of coal under the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015 and the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957. It also allowed private companies to mine the fossil fuel for commercial use, ending the monopoly of state-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL), which is a major reform in the coal sector since its nationalisation in 1973.
41.     India will host the first International Solar Alliance (ISA) Summit on March 11, 2018 in New Delhi.
42.     Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) was co-hosted by India and the United States in Hyderabad in November 2017. The summit saw in attendance Ivanka Trump, daughter and advisor of the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
43.     India and Germany signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for an ‘Implementation Agreement in Sustainable Urban Development and Smart Cities in India’ in New Delhi.
44.     Venezuela become first sovereign country to officially launch its own cryptocurrency called Petro backed by oil, gas, gold and diamond reserves. 
45.     India has contributed USD 1 million aid Tonga for rehabilitation efforts after island was hit by Tropical Cyclone Gita which had caused massive destruction across the pacific ocean archipelago.
46.     India has been placed at the 81st spot among 180 nations in the global Corruption Perception Index for 2017, which was recently released by Transparency International. New Zealand was ranked first with a score of 89 followed by Denmark at the 2nd position with a score of 88. 
47.     The Union Government informed the Supreme Court that it has advanced the availability of the BS-VI grade fuel by two years. Now, the BS-VI grade fuel will be available Delhi-NCR from April 1, 2018. Earlier, the BS-VI grade fuel was expected to be available from April 1, 2020. Originally, BS-VI fuel was to hit the market in 2020 but now it will be available from 2018 and in the first instance, Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) will start getting it from April 1, 2018.
48.     The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, EPFO has declared 8.55 per cent interest rate for 2017-18 for its about 5 crore members. 
49.     Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr Harsh Vardhan on February 19, 2018 announced that India will be the Global Host for the World Environment Day 2018. World Environment Day 2018 will be celebrated across the globe with the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. 
50.     India and Iran signed an agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation (DTAA) and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

51.     The Indian and Indonesian armies began the sixth edition of their annual military exercises in the West Java province of the archipelago country. The opening ceremony of the two-week Garuda Shakti military drill between the Special Forces of the Indian Army and the Indonesian Army was held at Bandung.
52.     The Tri-service maritime exercise ‘Paschim Lehar’ was initiated off India’s western coast on February 12, 2018. The main objective of the exercise was to build interoperability between the Indian Navy, Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Coast Guard.
53.     The state of West Bengal on February 13, 2018 became the first one in India to opt out of the Union Government’s National Health Protection Scheme that was announced in Union Budget 2018-19.
54.     Venezuela and Libya have been suspended from voting in the UN General Assembly for the third time in three years because of millions of dollars in unpaid dues to the world body. 
55.     India has signed the second loan agreement with New Development Bank (NDB) for 100 million dollars for Rajasthan Water Sector Restructuring Project for Desert Areas.
56.     India and Russia on February 14, 2018 celebrated 70 years of bilateral relations in the field of agriculture at Suratgarh in Rajasthan.
57.     India's first radio festival was held in New Delhi on February 15, 2018, to mark the World Radio Day. It included expert panel discussions, an exhibition and live performances and touched upon the theme for World Radio Day 2018, ‘radio and sports’.
58.     Cyril Ramaphosa, head of the ruling African National Congress (ANC), was been sworn in as the new President of South Africa. He was elected as the new president of South Africa by the ruling party members after the resignation of Jacob Zuma. 
59.     Union Tourism and Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma on February 13, 2018 announced that India will host the 8th edition of Theatre Olympics 2018 from February 17 to April 8, 2018. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the Theatre Olympics at the majestic Red Fort in New Delhi. The theme of the 8th Theatre Olympics will be “Flag of Friendship”.
60.     India and Palestine signed six Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) for cooperation in the field of infrastructural development in Palestine. The MoUs were signed during PM Narendra Modi's 3-hour visit to Palestine. Palestine was the first leg of PM Modi's three-nation tour of West Asia and the Gulf that will also see him travelling to United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman.
61.     India and Oman signed eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation in different sectors including defence and tourism.
62.     PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi was appointed as the Independent Director of the International Cricket Council (ICC). With this, Nooyi became the first independent female Director of the ICC. 
63.     The Competition Commission of India on February 7, 2018 imposed a fine of Rs 136 crore on internet search giant Google for unfair business practices in the Indian market for online search. The regulatory body took the decision after a detailed probe on the complaints filed in 2012.
64.     Jerome H Powell was sworn in as the 16th Chairman of the Federal Reserve for a four-year term. Powell succeeds Janet Yellen, the first woman to lead the US central bank.
65.     Union Government on February 9, 2018 announced that China has agreed to allow Indian pilgrims to embark on Kailash-Mansarovar yatra through Nathu La Pass in Sikkim after the route was closed in 2017 in the wake of the Doklam standoff. 
66.     The Union Cabinet on February 7, 2018 approved the proposal for amendment to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED)  Act, 2006. One of the key amendments changes the basis of classifying Micro, Small and Medium enterprises to ‘annual turnover’ from ‘investment in plant & machinery/equipment’. A micro enterprise will be defined as a unit where the annual turnover does not exceed Rs 5 crore. A small enterprise will be defined as a unit where the annual turnover is more than Rs 5 crore but does not exceed Rs 75 crore. A medium enterprise will be defined as a unit where the annual turnover is more than Rs 75 crore but does not exceed Rs 250 crore.
67.     The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved enhancement of the target of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) from 5 crore to 8 crore with an additional allocation of Rs 4800 crore. The revised target of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will be achieved by 2020.
68.     The Union Cabinet approved the proposal for ratification of Minamata Convention on Mercury and depositing the instrument of ratification, enabling India to become a Party of the Convention. The approval will bring about ratification of the Minamata Convention on Mercury along with flexibility for continued use of mercury-based products and processes involving mercury compound up till 2025.
69.     Neelam Kapur on February 7, 2018 took over as the Director General of the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
70.     Maldives President Abdulla Yameen on February 5, 2018 declared a state of emergency across the country for 15 days, before heavily armed Maldivian troops stormed the country's Supreme Court and arrested two Supreme Court judges Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Judge Ali Hameed without specifying the charges.
71.     The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the extension of term of Niti Aayog’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant till June 2019. 
72.     The HRD Ministry-appointed panel tasked with drafting a new National Education Policy will submit its report by March 31, 2018. Headed by former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief K Kasturirangan, the panel was set up in June 2017.
73.     India on February 1, 2018 joined the Ashgabat agreement, which envisages the establishment of an international transport and transit corridor linking Central Asia with the Persian Gulf to significantly ramp up trade and investment. The agreement was originally signed on April 25, 2011, among the four founding members - Iran, Oman, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan with an aim to set up a trade and transit corridor between them.
74.     India has been ranked 42nd among 165 independent states on the annual 2017 Global Democracy Index (GDI) released by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a UK-based company. India’s rank has slipped from 32nd in 2016 GDI and its overall score dropped 0.58 points from 7.81 to 7.23. Moreover, India was classified India as a flawed democracy in 2017 GDI.
75.     India and Pakistan on January 30, 2018 extended their agreement on Thar Link Express, the second solitary rail service between the two nations, for three more years. The two sides currently have only two trans-border trains. The Samjhauta Express operates on the Delhi-Lahore route through the Attari-Wagah border crossing and carries both passengers and freight. The Thar Express links Jodhpur and Karachi through the Munabao-Khokhrapar border crossing and carries only passengers.

77.     Anti-Leprosy Day was observed across the nation on January 30, 2018. The day is observed every year on the Martyrdom Day of Mahatma Gandhi, remembering his selfless efforts and care for the people affected by leprosy. 
78.     Asha Bhosle (84) has been chosen for fifth edition of Yash Chopra Memorial Award for her outstanding contribution to the Hindi film industry.
79.     The 7th India Energy Congress was held in New Delhi. The theme of the 7th edition of India Energy Congress is 'Energy 4.0: Energy Transition Towards 2030'.
80.     The 32nd Surajkund International Crafts Mela has begun in Faridabad, Haryana. 
81.     External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj has returned home after successful completion of the goodwill visit to Nepal.
82.     The Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Mr Arun Jaitley launched CriSidEx, India’s first sentiment index for micro and small enterprises ( MSEs) developed jointly by CRISIL & SIDBI. CriSidEx is a composite index based on a diffusion index of 8 parameters and measures MSE business sentiment on a scale of 0 (extremely negative ) to 200 ( extremely positive).

90.     Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport of Mumbai sets record with 980 flights in 24 hours or almost one flight every minute. While Gatwick, the U.K.’s second-largest airport, remains the most efficient single-runway airport in the world.
91.     Google and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) signed a pact to integrate a course on 'Digital Citizenship and Safety' in information and communication technology curriculum. It was signed on the occasion of Safer Internet Day (06th February).
92.     Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prema Khandu laid the foundation stone for Rhododendron Park in Tawang.
93.     Dubai International Airport has held on to its No 1 ranking as the world’s busiest airport for international travel, after seeing around 88.2 million passengers in 2017.
94.     Business magazine Forbes has released its first-ever Crypto Rich List, comprising 20 wealthiest people in the cryptocurrency space. The list was topped by Ripple Co-founder Chris Larsen, who is estimated to have a crypto net worth of $7.5-8 billion. He is followed by Ethereum Co-founder Joseph Lubin ($1-5 billion) and Founder of cryptocurrency exchange Binance Changpeng Zhao ($1.1-2 billion).
95.     The Reserve Bank of India will link the base rate with the MCLR from 1st of April 2018 to ensure expeditious transmission of its policy rate to borrowers. The RBI had introduced the Marginal Cost of Funds based Lending Rates (MCLR) system with effect from 1st April 2016, the Central bank observed that a large proportion of bank loans continue to be linked to Base Rate.
96.     Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for his three-nation visit to Palestine, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. Prime Minister would be addressing the Sixth World Government Summit being held in Dubai, UAE at which India has been extended 'Guest of Honour' status.
97.     India has increased “substantially” its score in the International Intellectual Property (IP) Index, ranking 44th among 50 nations, according to the US Chambers of Commerce report. Last year, India ranked 43rd out of 45 countries in the Index. The top 3 countries on the list are- The USA, The United Kingdom and Sweden.
98.     The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will start a pilot project called "pay as you use" on the Delhi-Mumbai Highway to study and implement the ability of the system in the country. 
99.     The South Central Railway (SCR) has become the first railway zone in the country to complete 100% LED lighting at all the stations under its jurisdiction.
100. SBI Card, the country's second-largest credit card issuer, has appointed Hardayal Prasad as new Managing Director (MD) & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. 

101. The first Khelo India School Games concluded in New Delhi with sports powerhouse Haryana topped the overall medal tally. The state won 102 medals which include 38 gold and 26 silver. Maharashtra with 110 medals (36 of them gold) finished second while Delhi with 94 medals came third.
102. National Informatics Centre (NIC) has organized a three-day National Meet on Grassroot Informatics- VIVID 2018 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The Theme for VIVID 2018 is “Cyber Security and Innovation”.
103. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the 'Grand Collar of the State of Palestine' by President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, recognising his key contribution to promote relations between India and Palestine.
104. The 23rd Olympic Winter Games officially kicked off with a colourful ceremony at Pyeongchang in South Korea. Ninety-two countries are participating in the event.

Mumbai, India's financial capital is the 12th richest city in the world with a total wealth of $950 billion, according to a report by New World Wealth. The list was topped by New York as the richest city in the world. The top 3 richest cities in the list are - New York ($3 trillion), London ($2.7 trillion), Tokyo ($2.5 trillion).
106. PM Modi laid the foundation stone of the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi (UAE).
107. Asma Jahangir, Pakistan’s renowned human rights lawyer, social activist and an outspoken critic of the country’s powerful military establishment, passed away of cardiac arrest. 
108. The Gevora Hotel in Dubai, developed by the Al Attar Group has now become the “world’s tallest hotel”. It stands 356 metres and 53 centimetres tall.
109. In order to remove existing ambiguities due to multiple Acts and rules for Small Saving Schemes, the Government of India has proposed merger of Government Savings Certificates Act, 1959 and Public Provident Fund Act, 1968 with the Government Savings Banks Act, 1873.
110. India's 1st Online Radio Station 'Radio Umang' was launched recently in India. Listeners can tune in to this online radio station through web streaming or download the app.
111. India-Russia Agriculture Business Summit 2018 was held in New Delhi. The two countries discussed trade relations in the agricultural sector.
112. The defence ministry of India approved capital acquisition proposals worth Rs.15,935 crore which included the purchase of 7.40 lakh assault rifles, 5,719 sniper rifles and light machine guns to bolster the strength of the armed forces.

According to the Union Minister of State of the Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is planning to launch Chandrayan-2 Mission around April 2018. Chandraayan-2 is a challenging mission as for the first time we will carry an orbiter, a lander and a rover to the moon. Chairman of ISRO K Sivan stated that the total cost of the Chandrayaan 2 mission will be about Rs 8 billion.

145. Chinese technology giant Huawei and telecom services provider Bharti Airtel announced to have successfully conducted 5G network trial under a test set-up in India. The trial was conducted at Airtel’s Network Experience Centre in Manesar (Gurugram). During the test trial, the speed of more than 3Gbps was achieved.
146. Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Ltd (ABIPBL) started operations, making it the fifth payments bank to roll out operations. The other payments banks that have started operations include Airtel Payments Bank Ltd, India Post Payments Bank Ltd, Paytm Payments Bank Ltd and Fino Payments Bank Ltd. The other applicants that are yet to set up payments bank include Vodafone m-Pesa Ltd, Reliance Industries Ltd and National Securities Depository Ltd.

160. U.S. trade sanctions will hit the world economy, Beijing warned, after President Donald Trump threatened to impose fresh tariffs on imports from China. Washington has already imposed a range of tariffs on Chinese-made goods, sparking fears of a tit-for-tat trade war between the world’s top two economies as China also threatens to take action.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked Kanpur-based firm Rotomac Global Private Limited and its directors Vikram Kothari, his wife and son in an alleged Rs. 3,695 crore “wilful” loan default case. The Enforcement Directorate is also launching a money laundering probe into fund-diversion charges against the accused.

Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India ceremonially broke ground on the Afghan section of an ambitious, multi-billion dollar gas pipeline expected to help ease energy deficits in South Asia. The quartet aims to complete the 1,840 km pipeline and begin pumping natural gas from Turkmenistan’s giant Galkynysh gas field by the beginning of 2020.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said that customers can use their electronic wallets, which are not compliant with know your customer (KYC) guidelines, for payments to merchants after February 28, even as it clarified that reloading the wallet with more funds would need a fully KYC-compliant account. In October, RBI had directed all mobile-wallet operators, to make all accounts fully KYC-compliant by December 31, 2017. The deadline was later extended to February 28. 
169. The Ministry of Defence has initiated work for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to set up a defence production corridor in Tamil Nadu. The corridor, which is organised as a quadrilateral will extend from Chennai, Hosur, Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruchi.
170. Maldives has declined an invitation to join the MILAN series of multilateral exercises to be hosted by the Indian Navy in March off the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Maldives Ambassador clarified that it was due to the state of emergency in his country. MILAN 2018 will be held from March 6-11. This year 23 countries have been invited, of which 16 have confirmed so far. 
171. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has joined criticism of US President Donald Trump’s plan to impose a 25 per cent tariff on steel imports and 10 per cent on aluminium. 
172. The first tranche of electoral bonds, aimed at improving transparency in the poll-related funding system, will be available at four branches of State Bank of India (SBI) from March 1. Bonds can be purchased from only the main branches of SBI in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai for a period of ten days through March 10. Electoral bond shall be valid for fifteen days from the date of issue and no payment shall be made to any payee political party if the bond is deposited after expiry of the validity period. The bonds won’t name the donor or the political party he is donating to, but these can be bought only through bank accounts after meeting all KYC norms. These will be bearer instruments in the nature of a promissory note, carrying no interest, and can be bought for any value, in multiples of Rs 1,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 1 lakh, Rs 10 lakh or Rs 1 crore.
